what is a good methods or secrets to play single stroke rolls like buddy rich?
its almost not even humanly possible to play like buddy, the man is like a machine that can do things only a drummer couldnt even imagine, so what im trying to ask is there any methods i can do to atleast try and reach the insane speed of his single stroke rolls, hell id be happy to play half the speed of his single stroke rolls lol, i mean if youve ever seen is single stroke rolls you literally cant even see his sticks there just a blur its crazy!! oh and by the way is there a good method to practice one handed single stroke rolls using a traditional grip
I got to meet Buddy Rich when he did a concert in Mobile, Alabama. Something happened to his kit in shipping and through the Musician's Union he borrowed my floor tom. For payment I got to meet him and my Dad & I sat just offstage with a "birds-eye" view during the concert.
Anyhow, Rich made no secret of his method. It was practice, practice, practice. He wouldn't take a student unless the student could play a single stroke roll for 5 minutes hitting the same spot which each stroke! The same goes for your one-handed roll-- practice for hours! Start off slowly and then build up your speed as your stamina grows. Good luck!
